    Notes

    1. An Indonesian crew member named Darman Thalib described symptoms of beriberi on the Han Rong 369 in Before You Eat, a movie released in Indonesia in 2022. Thalib became sick with swollen legs that felt heavy when he walked. The captain checked on it and when he pressed on the calf, it sunk in and left a dent. The captain provided Thalib with three different kinds of medicine, one of which was a vitamin. 29 Filipino crew from the Han Rong 362, 366 and 369 were left stranded on board by their employer when the boats they were working on ceased operations in May 2021 and Covid restrictions stranded the ships in southeastern China. The Philippines Department of Foreign Affairs arranged for 6 to be repatriated in December 2021. The crew said they were not paid their wages.
